Why You May Receive "Undeliverable"
Messages
For Email You Did Not Send
If you receive any type of email stating a message was undeliverable that you did not send it is most likely due to a virus.
Modern day viruses fake (spoof) the "From" line in order to hide the infected computer.
|
Example: Let's say Joe's computer is infected with a virus and he has your email address listed in his Address Book. The virus may send tons of infected email from Joe's computer placing YOUR email address in the From line. Naturally the person who receives the infected email thinks it came from you - when in reality it came from Joe's computer. If the virus sends an email to an address that no longer exists and your email is listed in the From line, YOU receive the failure notice.

If you suspect that your computer is infected with a virus please please see our Internet Security information for links to free online scans and anti-virus software downloads.
