Mail Server Security Restrictions
Internet
Service Providers are targets of spam and virus attacks daily
simply due to their subscriber base. Our @cvtv.net and
@fais.net email addresses are no exception. It is not
our intention to restrict our subscriber, our intention is to
ensure the continual operation of our mail server which serves
all of our subscribers. For this reason
we have implemented the below security policies on our mail
server for all addresses ending with @cvtv.net and @fais.net:
Blocking
Harmful Attachments |
Spam Content
Filter |
Maximum Server Storage Limitations
Blocking of
Potentially Harmful Email Attachments
Due to the onslaught of computer viruses and
security threats our mail server is blocking email attachments
that end in:
|
.exe
.com
.bat
.pif
.vbs |
.lnk
.reg
.hta
.cpl
.scr |
(If you
need to send these types of files please use a utility call
Winzip to compress and send them.
information.)
The sender of an email that
contains a blocked attachment will be sent a mail return error
message with details. The intended receiver of that
email is not notified.
Attachments that are NOT
blocked include:
Zip
(compressed) files (.zip)
Pictures and
images (.JPG and .GIF)
Word
documents (.doc)
Spreadsheets
(.xls)
Power Point
Presentations (.ppt)
…and any
attachment not listed as Blocked above.
Spam
Content Filters
To reduce the amount of
Spam our subscriber base receives we have implemented a
Content Filter. The content filter contains words or phrases
commonly used by spammers and will reject mail against the
content list. If someone attempts to send an email to
or from our mail server, and the content of that email
matches a word or phrase listed in our content filter the
server will reject the mail. As a notification the
sender will either
notice a pop-up window from
their anti-virus software stating "579 message content
is not acceptable here" (since anti-virus software usually
scans email for viruses before sending) or an immediate return
receipt stating "579 message content is not acceptable here."
For example our mail
server will reject any mail containing the word "Viagra" in the
subject line of an email. In another example our server will
reject any email containing the phrase "Buy Cialis and other
online meds here" in the message body.
If you, or someone
attempting to send you email, is receiving error 579 try revising
the email content and re-sending the message.
If you need to
determine exactly what is being blocked please contact our 24-hour
support center at (877) 452-9035 and initiate a trouble ticket.
Mailbox Storage Limitations
The maximum storage space
per email account is 300Meg. This includes message stored in
ALL folders including Spam and Trash. If your mailbox
reaches 90% capacity the server will send out an automatic
notification. When your account reaches 100% incoming mail
will be rejected. Please

for instruction to resolve a mailbox full issue.
Options and Frequently Asked Questions
Are There Email
Addresses Without
Restrictions?
If our security efforts conflict with your
needs, we would like to suggest a web hosting package where
there are no restrictions because you will own your email
addresses.
If you purchase your own web address (domain
name) you can then create email addresses that end with @yourname.com.
These email addresses do not block attachments, they have spam
filtering capabilities that you personally adjust, and they
have a gracious 100 Meg storage limitation per email address.
Costs
associated with your own web address (domain name) are:
-
Web address (domain name) $35 annual ownership
-
Web Lite hosting package $14.95 per month
The above package includes
storage space for a website, up to 5 email addresses ending
with @yourmane.com, up to 5 forwarding email addresses
ending with @yourname.com and 250 Meg of storage space. For
more details about the Web Lite hosting package
We highly recommend your own email addresses if:
- You
regularly communicate with people outside of the United States
- If you are in any type of business in which you normally
correspond to people using content that may be contained in
our content filters.
How Can I Compress
(Zip) Files To Send As Attachments?
You can download Winzip free of charge and use
it to compress one or more files into a single file name that
ends with the extension of .zip. You can then send this .zip
file as an email attachment. The recipient of the email will
then need to un-compress (or un-zip) the file(s) contained in
the attachment.
This is the best method of sending multiple or
large files in attachments because the file size is smaller
thus sends/receives much faster.

Winzip click here

I
have received an attachment that ends with .zip.
What do I do?
First you
need to download and install Winzip. Once Winzip is installed
you can click on the attachment (that ends with .zip) and the
software will pop up showing you the contents of that file.
You can then choose to extract it to your Desktop, My
Documents or any other folder on your computer. |
