Webmail Functions Explained
Webmail can be accessed by visiting http://mail.cvtv.net

Instructions loading please wait...

A - Inbox.  This is where incoming mail is stored.  Your email software installed on your computer downloads these messages.

B - Old Webmail.  We moved everyone's email that was stored on our old mail server into this folder after we completed our mail server upgrade.

C - Spam.  This is where the Spam filter stores email that it thinks is spam.  After a few days these messages are automatically deleted.  You may want to periodically check the contents of your Spam folder to make sure legitimate email is not accidentally marked as spam.

D - Green checkmark.  This checkmark icon allows you to check every message on the page you are viewing.  This is commonly used to delete or move all email messages at once (see E to delete).

E - Red X.  When you checkmark an individual piece of mail, or us the green checkmark to select all messages at once, pressing the red X will delete all the selected messages.

F - Options button.  This button allows you to personalize your webmail interface.  Some subscribers choose to change the "Preferred Skin" setting to some other desirable viewing arrangement.

Tip: If you wish to speed up Webmail we suggest trying the skin of "Outlook" or "GoldFleece" as they seem to load faster.  To change your skin:

1.)  Login to Webmail and click the Options  button

2,)  Change the Preferred Skin to GoldFleece

3.)  Press the green checkmark at the top-left

4.)  Log out of Webmail and then log back in

If you do not like GoldFleece you can change it back by clicking:

1.)  The settings button at the top

2.)  Under Layout choose (default)Thunderous and press Update

3.)  Logout and log back into Webmail

Spam Filter Adjustments Explained
Adjustments to your Spam Filter can be made at http://spamfree.cvtv.net

How to make sure legitimate email ends up in your Inbox by using the Allow list.  See details below.

A
- Filter:  This is the field that you enter your filter rule into.  (Example  *@fais.net)

B - Type:  Here you choose whether you want to Allow or Deny this email address or addresses.

C - Add New Entry button
You must click this button for the rule to take affect.

D - Filter Settings Examples:

With the setting of *@cvtv.net and Allow the server to will not filter any email coming from any address that ends with @cvtv.net.  Email from anyone that ends with @cvtv.net will be sent directly to your Inbox.

Using someone@yahoo.com and Allow states that any incoming email from this specific email address will not be filtered and will be placed directly in your Inbox.

Using *@aspamserver.com and Deny tells the filter to automatically place any incoming email that ends with @aspamserver.com directly into your Spam folder.

E - Required Hits
This adjusts the effectiveness of your Spam Filter.  The lower the number, the more aggressive the filtering.

Tip: To maximize the effectiveness of your Spam Filter you can set your Required Hits to 1 and create an Allow list that includes the specific email addresses of the people you correspond with.  Be sure to read the examples listed in D above.

F - Disable Spam Filter
This setting completely disables your email address from being filtered for Spam

G - Update Settings button
You must press this button for any changes to take affect.

Mail Server Security Restrictions

Internet Service Providers are targets of spam and virus attacks daily simply due to their subscriber base.  Our @cvtv.net and @fais.net email addresses are no exception.  It is not our intention to restrict our subscriber, our intention is to ensure the continual operation of our mail server which serves all of our subscribers.  For this reason we have implemented the below security policies on our mail server for all addresses ending with @cvtv.net and @fais.net:

Blocking Harmful Attachments  |  Spam Content Filter  |  Maximum Server Storage Limitations

Blocking of Potentially Harmful Email Attachments

Due to the onslaught of computer viruses and security threats our mail server is blocking email attachments that end in:

.exe

.com

.bat

.pif

.vbs

.lnk

.reg

.hta

.cpl

.scr

(If you need to send these types of files please use a utility call Winzip to compress and send them. Click here for options and information.)

The sender of an email that contains a blocked attachment will be sent a mail return error message with details.  The intended receiver of that email is not notified.

Attachments that are NOT blocked include:

Zip (compressed) files (.zip)

Pictures and images (.JPG and .GIF)

Word documents (.doc)

Spreadsheets (.xls)

Power Point Presentations (.ppt)

…and any attachment not listed as Blocked above.

Spam Content Filters

To reduce the amount of Spam our subscriber base receives we have implemented a Content Filter. The content filter contains words or phrases commonly used by spammers and will reject mail against the content list.  If someone attempts to send an email to or from our mail server, and the content of that email matches a word or phrase listed in our content filter the server will reject the mail.  As a notification the sender will either notice a pop-up window from their anti-virus software stating "579 message content is not acceptable here" (since anti-virus software usually scans email for viruses before sending) or an immediate return receipt stating "579 message content is not acceptable here."

For example our mail server will reject any mail containing the word "Viagra" in the subject line of an email.  In another example our server will reject any email containing the phrase "Buy Cialis and other online meds here" in the message body.

If you, or someone attempting to send you email, is receiving error 579 try revising the email content and re-sending the message.

If you need to determine exactly what is being blocked please contact our 24-hour support center at (877) 452-9035 and initiate a trouble ticket.

Mailbox Storage Limitations

The maximum storage space per email account is 300Meg. This includes message stored in ALL folders including Spam and Trash. If your mailbox reaches 90% capacity the server will send out an automatic notification. When your account reaches 100% incoming mail will be rejected. Please click here for instruction to resolve a mailbox full issue.

Options and Frequently Asked Questions

Are There Email Addresses Without Restrictions?

If our security efforts conflict with your needs, we would like to suggest a web hosting package where there are no restrictions because you will own your email addresses.

If you purchase your own web address (domain name) you can then create email addresses that end with @yourname.com.  These email addresses do not block attachments, they have spam filtering capabilities that you personally adjust, and they have a gracious 100 Meg storage limitation per email address.

Costs associated with your own web address (domain name) are:

-          Web address (domain name) $35 annual ownership

-          Web Lite hosting package $14.95 per month

The above package includes storage space for a website, up to 5 email addresses ending with @yourmane.com, up to 5 forwarding email addresses ending with @yourname.com and 250 Meg of storage space.  For more details about the Web Lite hosting package click here.

We highly recommend your own email addresses if:

- You regularly communicate with people outside of the United States

- If you are in any type of business in which you normally correspond to people using content that may be contained in our content filters.

How Can I Compress (Zip) Files To Send As Attachments?

You can download Winzip free of charge and use it to compress one or more files into a single file name that ends with the extension of .zip.  You can then send this .zip file as an email attachment.  The recipient of the email will then need to un-compress (or un-zip) the file(s) contained in the attachment.

This is the best method of sending multiple or large files in attachments because the file size is smaller thus sends/receives much faster.

To download Winzip software click here http://www.winzip.com

For answers to frequently asked questions about Winzip click here http://www.winzip.com/faq.htm

I have received an attachment that ends with .zip.  What do I do?

First you need to download and install Winzip. Once Winzip is installed you can click on the attachment (that ends with .zip) and the software will pop up showing you the contents of that file.  You can then choose to extract it to your Desktop, My Documents or any other folder on your computer.
